DOWNTOWN. A.P. Stump's Chophouse is a favorite destination for couples in the downtown area who are looking for a classy night on the town. The staff is courteous and knowledgeable, and the club-like setting is intimate without being overly reserved. The menu features such entrees as lamb, ribeye and Maine lobster. The bar area is a popular place to hang out before or after dinner, and the restaurant also has a large patio area. Live jazz can be heard Tuesday through Saturday.

DOWNTOWN. Blake's is a traditional steakhouse whose classy interior includes beautiful woodwork and intimate window-side booths that offer great views of the nearby square. The steaks are purported to be among the best in San Jose; however, they also offer several fish, fowl, and seafood options. San Jose arena is within walking distance of Blake's Steakhouse and Bar. Reservations are suggested.

ALMADEN. The building that houses this local favorite dates back to the late 19th century. Henry's, whose Western interior is home to memorabilia of all shapes and sizes, is popular for its barbecued steaks and ribs. Such dishes as chicken fettuccine Alfredo, center-cut chops, and fresh seafood are also available. Henry's doesn't offer dessert, for everybody knows that you couldn't fit it in if they did.

STEVENS CREEK. This popular steakhouse is known for its excellent service and lively, jazz-like atmosphere. Indeed, the restaurant is connected to a popular downtown casino, and it tends to get a little loud here. Nevertheless, Garden City is a "good bet," and you'll find that their famous prime rib is an experience not to be missed. At night, diners are treated to a little light jazz.

This comfortable Southwestern-style restaurant offers a wide range of spicy entrées, each of which works well with their tasty potato casserole. Their pork chops are big favorites with the locals, and their marinated steak and chicken plates are equally well done. The restaurant offers a full bar, as well as a few locally produced beers and wines.
